Italian Time: Ariccia

There is a treasured personal story that leads from Chicago and Basel to our dear friend Virginia Volterra, Rome and Ariccia. Virginia has restored the Villino Volterra in Ariccia , and we became enchanted with her work there and this beautiful setting. The home and gardens of the Villino Volterra were created in the early 1900s by her grandfather, famed mathematician, scholar and statesman, Vito Volterra. villinovolterra.it

Across the historic bridge from the Villino Volterra, on the Bernini church Ariccia town square, stands the massive summer palace of the Chigi banking family. The Palazzo is now a fascinating museum, housing both the noted collection of Baroque art and many of the original rooms in which the Chigi  family lived from the 17th century renovation through late in the 20th century. Across the piazza is the Bernini designed Church, Santa Maria Assunta, which can be glimpsed through a window in one of the photographs. palazzochigiariccia.com

I was honored to have had exhibitions in both of these beautiful locations: A Visual Narrative (2015) at the Villino Volterra and Nella Luce del Presente (2018) at the Palazzo Chigi.
